I'm just wondering if snapshots are so dangerous why does mindcrack use them? It is not dangerous or anything, it is just buggs and weird glitches. But multiple servers are using the snapshots and their are nothing happening. There are also servers that wait for the recomended bukkit build so they loose players because they won't update to the development or beta build, but there is nothing dangerous with them they are just a little unstable and a few glitches and bugs. The same with the snapshots, we will survive with the snapshots. Also the new snapshot make minecraft run smoother so there will be less lagg and that would help especially people with less powerfull computers |

Even though I've been strongly against the use of snapshots, I have to say yes. But not right now.
We've had snapshots before which corrupted the map, we do not want that again. Futuregame has his own server where he has snapshots, nothing has happened yet for him and he loves it. When I go on that server there's plenty of new blocks for builders such as myself, those banners can also help us represent towns.
The problem is, do we really want to risk the map just for new objects when we can just wait until autumn for 1.8? I highly doubt Mojang will release it in winter due to the amount of things already added into the snapshots, so 1.8 will not be too far away. I think we should wait, but I am not bothered if we go into the snapshots later on in the duration of the map but we should wait for the new players to settle down more and build their homes, so that we don't have hermits scattered about an even larger map.

It's Gem speaking on behalf of Jack (Rcon/Undying/ADMIN/that guy) and myself, as Alex said we've tried snapshots in the past and things went horribly wrong for us including chunk errors and worlds being unplayable. We've had this map for more than 5 months now and people have really become attached to it and built up their own towns/civilizations. I don't want to risk this at all as we've lost players due to it, by all means if you want to experience the snapshot I'm sure there are other servers that host it but snapshots aren't for this server based on past experiences. As soon as 1.8 comes out we will be upgrading and expanding the border so there's new content, so keep your knickers on!
Sorry for anyone that wants the snapshot but this is a decision we've already made.

Also mojang designed the temples to where they can spawn in already explored chunks so maybe we have one within 2k of spawn. |
